Apply to graduate

Undergraduate students

When you have completed 90 degree credits you are eligible to apply for graduation and an application link will appear in MyU: Academics. You must complete the Application for Degree before the deadline for each term

Use the "Commence! UMD Commencement Manager" to confirm your degree information, even if you do not plan to attend the commencement exercises.

If you miss the deadline or your plans change after you complete your Application for Degree, you will not be able to update your expected graduation term online and will need to fill out a Petition to Change Expected Graduation Term form and contact One Stop Student Services with your name, student ID number, and updated term of graduation.

Graduate students

Graduate degrees are awarded monthly. When you have completed the required milestones you will be able to access the Apply to Graduate link in the Degree Progress tab of MyU: Academics. To graduate at the end of any given month, submit your Application for Degree by the first day of the month you would like to graduate. For example, if you want to graduate in March, submit your application by March 1. If you are unable to access the link or, after applying, your degree plans change, email the Graduate School Office at umdgrad@d.umn.edu to request a new graduation month. Include your name, student ID number, and new graduation month.

You can find additional degree materials on the UMD Graduate School website. Please return completed paper forms to the Graduate School Office, 431 Darland Administration Building.

If your degree program is not listed, visit your program office or website to obtain detailed information about graduation and graduation dates.
